Automation
Automations and sequences
Automations send email for you, triggered by what your contacts do — no manual sending required. They're how you deliver welcome series, onboarding, and re-engagement at scale.
Sequences vs automations
- A sequence is a linear drip: step 1, wait, step 2, wait, step 3. Ideal for a welcome series or a course.
- An automation is a branching flow on a visual canvas: send an email, wait, check a condition, then take different paths depending on the answer. Ideal for behaviour-driven journeys.
Triggers
An automation starts when a contact:
- joins a list,
- is tagged with a specific tag, or
- takes a web action you track.
Building a sequence
- Go to Sequences → New.
- Add an email step, then a delay (e.g. wait 2 days), then the next email.
- Set the trigger — for example, when added to the Newsletter list.
- Activate it. From then on, every new matching contact is enrolled automatically.
Building a branching automation
On the automation canvas, drop nodes and connect them: trigger → email → delay → condition. A condition node splits into yes and no paths — so you can send a different follow-up to people who clicked versus those who didn't.
A reliable first automation
A three-step welcome series is the highest-value automation for most senders:
- Immediately: welcome + what to expect.
- After 2 days: your best content or a getting-started guide.
- After 4 days: a gentle call to action.
New subscribers are at their most engaged — a welcome series converts that attention while it's fresh.
