Getting started
Import and organise your contacts
Got an existing audience? Import it into Mailee in a few minutes.
Prepare your file
Export your contacts as a CSV with a header row. At minimum you need an email column. Common extras: first name, last name, and any custom attributes (company, plan, city) you want to personalise or segment on.
Import
- Go to Contacts → Import and upload your CSV.
- Map each column to a Mailee field. Unmapped columns become custom fields automatically.
- Optionally apply a tag or add to a list during import, so your contacts are organised from the start.
- Run the import. Mailee de-duplicates by email — re-importing someone updates them rather than creating a duplicate.
Only import people who opted in
Import is also where deliverability is won or lost. Only bring in addresses that genuinely subscribed to hear from you. Importing a bought, scraped, or very old list leads to bounces and spam complaints that damage your sender reputation for every future send. If a list is old, consider a re-permission campaign before relying on it.
After importing
- Send a small first campaign to your most engaged contacts to warm up.
- Check Reports for bounces — a high bounce rate on import is a sign the list was stale.
- Keep it tidy: Mailee automatically suppresses bounces, complaints, and unsubscribes going forward.
A clean list of a thousand people who want your email beats ten thousand who don't — every time.
